Our Prediction Tip

Chile will win this match.

The head-to-head record between Colombia and Chile suggests these are two extremely closely-matched sides, with Chile having 14 wins, compared to Colombia's 10, in 36 historic meetings. Colombia are unbeaten in their last three games against Chile, however, although they did lose three in a row in this fixture prior to the current sequence.

In the previous Copa America clash between Colombia and Chile it was Colombia who came out on top on home soil, sealing a 3-0 win with Víctor Aristizabal and Eudalio Arriaga on the scoresheet at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez in Barranquilla.

Colombia v Chile: Prediction

Colombia are arguably the most unpredictable team at the Copa America, so it is hard to know what to expect from them, but Chile laid down a marker with their 7-0 demolition of Mexico in the last round, so they have understandably been made the favourites for this semi-final.

This match is not likely to be anything like as one-sided as Chile's last game, however, and it could well be decided by just a single goal - or even go all the way to a penalty shoot-out.

Colombia v Chile: Betting Tips

Chile's odds of 8/5 reflect the fact they blew Mexico away in the last round, while Colombia can be backed at as big as 21/10 to win the semi-final in 90 minutes. The draw is available at a price of 11/5 and looks reasonable value in what is expected to be a low-scoring affair, with 4/7 on under 2.5 goals also a very appealing selection for this clash.

The 9/2 available for Colombia to win on penalties may stand out for those expecting an upset here after their spot-kick triumph against Peru, while a 1-0 Chile win can be backed at 13/2.

Penalties were needed for Colombia to get past Peru in the Copa America quarter-finals, with goalkeeper David Ospina proving to be the hero for his side in the shoot-out as Miguel Trauco and Christian Cueva failed to convert spot-kicks.

James Rodriguez is the star man in the Colombia side and the Real Madrid midfielder has set up two goals for his side and scored once so far in the tournament, while Carlos Bacca is a very dangerous striker when he is on top form. The Colombia back line looks quite solid, despite conceding three goals in defeat to Costa Rica in the final group game of the tournament.

Colombia likely XI:

Ospina, Arias, Zapata, Murillo, Diaz, Sanchez, Torres, Cuadrado, Cardona, Rodriguez, Bacca.

Arturo Vidal described Chile's performance in a 7-0 quarter-final thrashing of Mexico as "perfect" and it was hard to disagree with the verdict of the tenacious midfielder, so it seems unlikely there will be a lot of changes in the holders' team for this match.

Eduardo Vargas struck four goals in the quarter-final, with Alexis Sanchez finally catching alight after a slow start to the Copa America. Vidal has also been excellent in midfield as Juan Antonio Pizzi's men look to defend the title they surprisingly won last year under previous coach Jorge Sampaoli, by beating Argentina on penalties.

Chile likely XI:

Bravo, Isla, Medel, Jara, Beausejour, Vidal, Diaz, Aranguiz, Sanchez, Vargas, Fuenzalida.

Chile\'s thrashing of Mexico was a sign that Juan Antonio Pizzi\'s men mean business, but the pressure of attempting to defend the Copa America title could prove to be too much. Chile\'s team is stronger on paper, with Eduardo Vargas the top scorer in the competition after his four-goal haul in the quarter-final, but Colombia will be confident of causing a shock. Chile should win but it could well go all the way to penalties, in which case anything could happen.
If Argentina beat United States and Chile get past Colombia, the 2016 Copa America final will be a rematch of last year\'s final, which Chile surprisingly won on penalties.
