Our Prediction Tip

Argentina will win this match.

United States have only won twice in 10 meetings against the Albiceleste, with the last of those victories coming in 1999, while it is nearly 10 years since these teams played each other.

That game was at the 2007 Copa America, with Lionel Messi - now the joint-record goalscorer and captain for Argentina - making one of his early appearances for the national team. Argentina won 4-1 on that day, with Messi typically at the heart of his team's best attacking moves. Argentina won 3-0 against the USMNT in the only other Copa America clash between the sides, in 1995.

Argentina v United States: Prediction

Argentina look determined to break their 23-year wait for a major international tournament title, with Lionel Messi in particularly fine form. The USMNT have had a terrific run in the Copa America, but the suspension of key midfielder Jermaine Jones will hurt them hard. Argentina have scored 14 goals at the tournament so far and it is hard to see the United States keeping them out.

Argentina v United States: Betting Tips

Odds of 1/2 suggest this should be a fairly straightforward victory for Argentina, with the draw offered at a price of 7/2 and the United States available to back at as big as 7/1 for this game.

A little more value can be found in Argentina to win both halves at 27/10, while their half-time/full-time odds are also a very tempting 13/10 for the semi-final. Finally, the Higuain/Argentina to score and win double is available at as large a price as 6/4.

Copa America favourites Argentina face hosts United States in the semi-finals after beating Venezuela 4-1 in the last round, with Gerardo Martino finally bringing his stars into the team.

Lionel Messi made his first start of the tournament and scored, as well as providing two assists, while Gonzalo Higuain was preferred to Sergio Aguero in attack. Higuain justified the faith shown by his coach with a pair of goals and is likely to retain his place as a result. Argentina could rotate slightly with an eye on the final, but Martino appears to have settled on his strongest side.

Argentina likely XI:

Romero, Mercado, Otamendi, Funes Mori, Rojo, Fernandez, Mascherano, Banega, Di Maria, Higuain, Messi.

The USMNT have had a great Copa America after losing their opening game of the tournament and excitement is now growing across the country about the potential of Jurgen Klinsmann's team. However, Argentina will be their toughest test of the Copa to date.

Klinsmann has mostly kept the same starting line-up throughout the tournament and is unlikely to change much for the semi-final, with experienced internationals such as Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey still the key players for the United States team, although Jermaine Jones is suspended after he was sent off in the 2-1 quarter-final win against Ecuador.

United States likely XI:

Guzan, Yedlin, Cameron, Brooks, Besler, Zardes, Beckerman, Bradley, Bedoya, Dempsey, Wood

A rematch of last year\'s final between Argentina and Chile looks on the cards and it would be a huge shock is the USMNT were to halt the charge of Gerardo Martino\'s men here. The coach has kept key stars such as Leo Messi and Angel Di Maria fresh throughout the tournament, while Jurgen Klinsmann has stuck with the same team and is without suspended midfielder Jermaine Jones. Argentina should win this game easily, by at least two goals.
Argentina are aiming to reach a major final for the third year in a row, having lost the 2014 World Cup to Germany and last year\'s Copa America on penalties to Chile.
