Indianapolis Colts vs Tennessee Titans Prediction

It won’t be as easy as last weekend for the Titans, it hardly ever is, but they have the home crowd and will have a ton of vengeance on their minds after last year’s loss at home knocked them out of the playoffs.  They gave retribution.

Correct Score Prediction: Colts 17-20 Titans

Progress Report

If you were one of the people that thought the Colts would show that well last weekend, go ahead and raise your hand.  There couldn’t have been many of them given that Andrew Luck had just left the team ahead of a trip out west to face a playoff team from the year before.  It was a loss and they come into this road trip 0-1, yes, but it was a moral victory of sorts to get it into overtime and nearly pull off a win in such circumstances.

Last Five Games

9/8/19: 24-30 OT L @ Chargers
1/12/19: 13-31 L @ Chiefs (AFC Divisional Round)
1/5/19: 21-7 W @ Texans (AFC Wild Card)
12/30/19: 33-17 W @ Titans
12/23/19: 27-28 W vs Giants

Key Offensive Players

He didn’t set the world on fire in his debut start for the team, but Jacoby Brissett certainly showed he was more than capable of playing the QB position last weekend.  He went 21-27 for 190 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions to start, which is far from awful from someone who had not been given much time to prepare to be the #1 option heading into play.  He, of course, was aided tremendously by running back Marlon Mack, who was impervious for them in the overtime loss.  He racked up 174 yards on 25 carries, with 63 of them coming on one run, and a touchdown in the loss.

Expected Offensive Starting Line up

QB    Brissett
RB    Mack
WR    Hilton
WR    Cain
WR    Campbell
TE    Ebron
LT    Castonzo
LG    Nelson
C    Kelly
RG    Glowinski
RT    Smith

Key Defensive Player

One player that was everywhere on the field in the opening loss was linebacker Darius Leonard.  He came up with seven tackles, three unassisted, as his team fought back and made a heck of a game of it with the Chargers.  Free safety Malik Hooker had a fine game in his own right as well, intercepting a Rivers pass and then running it back 26 yards.  He also had five tackles, four on his own to help lead them to a respectable result.

Expected Defensive Starting Line up

LDE    Houston
LDT    Hunt
RDT    Autry
RDE    Muhammad
WLB    Leonard
MLB    Walker
SLB    Adams
LCB    Desir
SS    Geathers
FS    Hooker
RCB    Moore II

Progress Report

The Titans are 1-0 after the first week of the season as they went to Cleveland and delivered a beat down to a team that had been hyper up all summer long.  With that said, they still are portrayed by many in the media as a team that cannot be trusted.  One reason for that is their quarterback play, with some feeling he’s just not going to stay healthy or consistent enough.  All of that can be put to bed, finally, if they can just keep putting up points and keeping their defense from having all the pressure in the world heaped upon it.

Last Five Games

9/8/19: 43-13 W @ Browns
12/30/18: 33-17 L vs Colts
12/22/18: 16-25 W vs Redskins
12/16/18: 17-0 W @ Giants
12/6/18: 9-30 W vs Jaguars

Key Offensive Players

The Titans didn’t beat the Browns all on their own.  Penalties helped a lot and they also spread the love well.  Quarterback Marcus Mariota wasn’t even superb, going 14-24 for 248 yards, but it was plenty to see off Cleveland and embarrass them greatly to start the season.  Mariota also added 24 yards on the ground, part of his appeal as a QB.  Running back Derrick Henry had himself a big game in the win over the Browns, racking up 75 yards receiving and 84 rushing as they strolled to victory on his back.

Expected Offensive Starting Line up

QB    Mariota
RB    Henry
WR    Davis
WR    Humphries
WR    Sharpe
TE    Walker
LT    Dennis
LG    Saffold
C    Jones
RG    Douglas
RT    Conklin

Key Defensive Player

The defense definitely did not let the Titans down, and cornerback Logan Ryan can attest to that.  He had an interception and had seven tackles, with 1.5 of them being sacks, to demonstrate he can do a bit of everything last week.  Linebacker Cameron Wake had a fine game as well, recording 2.5 of his three tackles via sacks and showing he’s a menace coming after the QB.

Expected Defensive Starting Line up

LDE    Johnson
NT    Jones
RDE    Casey
WLB    Wake
LILB    Brown
RILB    Evans
SLB    Laundry
LCB    Ryan
SS    Vaccaro
FS    Byard
RCB    Butler

The Titans and Colts each performed much better than many would have expected them to do so in week 1. Tennessee got a comfortable win over the Browns, while Indianapolis were able to take the Chargers to the wire. One came up trumps, and the other did not. You can't think the Titans will keep up that sort of play, but you can have some confidence in them at home, right? They take this one.
Indy defeated the Titans twice last season in the middle of their wild run to the Wild Card playoff spot, including their win on the last day of the season in Nashville to earn the place over the Titans.
