Cagliari VS Roma Match Prediction

Roma will win this match.
Roma have won three games in a row against Cagliari, so the head-to-head record suggests the visitors will come out on top in this Serie A match. However, Cagliari have picked up a couple of wins in this fixture not too long ago, so they can take heart from those performances heading into their game at the weekend. Roma did the double over Cagliari in Serie A last season, winning 2-0 at home and 2-1 away to take a maximum of six points from their two matches.

Roma need to recover quickly from their disappointing Champions League play-off exit at the hands of Porto and put their focus straight back on Serie A, where they have a chance to upset Juventus' run of titles if they can play their best football for the whole season. How Roma respond to that defeat will affect the result here, but on the strength of the two squads there is only one winner and it is not the hosts.
A price of 11/12 on Roma to win at the weekend looked very generous considering that in six of their last seven away games in Serie A, they have been able to score at least three goals. Keeping Roma out will be a challenge for Cagliari and there is little interest in their odds of 17/5 to win, nor in the 13/5 for the draw.
Over 2.5 goals is certainly worth considering given how strong Roma are in attack, with 11/13 looking like a very good price, while Roma to win with over 2.5 goals scored in the game is an incredible tempting 2/1 here.
Cagliari will be looking to bounce back from a 3-1 opening weekend loss to Genoa but Roma is one of the toughest fixtures they could be facing. Marco Borriello had put Cagliari ahead, only for three goals in the last 12 minutes to complete a remarkable turnaround for Genoa. The 3-5-2 formation preferred by Massimo Rastelli is likely to be retained here, with Borriello leading the line.

Roma might be top of Serie A after one game, but they crashed out of the Champions League in midweek, suffering a shock play-off loss at the hands of Porto despite being favourites and at home. Coach Luciano Spalletti will demand an immediate reaction from his players, although defenders Antonio Rudiger, Mario Rui and Abdullahi Nura are all still injured. Spalletti could revert to the team that easily beat Udinese 4-0 at the Stadio Olimpico last weekend.
