This season, they won 4-0 at home at the end of August – Sergio Aguero scored twice in between goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. Manchester City have won all five games against Brighton since the Seagulls were promoted to the Premier League and beat them in the FA Cup semi-finals last year too.
Pep Guardiola’s side may be in poor away form, but they consequently return to a ground on which they have good memories so far.
First among them will be their title win last season, securing their second consecutive Premier League crown with a 4-1 win at Brighton.
Looking purely at their home performances since lockdown, a win of similar magnitude would not be out of the question.
Brighton have lost their last two home games, to Liverpool and Manchester United too, conceding three goals in each.
But City’s away form has been typical of their inconsistent season. They can bounce back in this match but they will need to score early to avoid more frustration against a disciplined defence.

Brighton have lost their last two away games, conceding three goals apiece in defeats to Manchester United and Liverpool. In between, Leandro Trossard scored their only goal in a win at Norwich and he also pulled a goal back in the 3-1 defeat to the champions last time out.
After his performance last time out, David Silva could start again but with Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden lining up too. All three have been in exciting form since lockdown, though Pep Guardiola also has the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva to turn to.
Raheem Sterling – His goal against Newcastle last time out was his 24th of the season, taking him clear of Sergio Aguero at the top of City’s scoring charts.
Kevin de Bruyne – Opened the scoring when these teams last met and he now has 13 goals and an incredible 20 assists for the season.
David Silva – Signing off in style for City, having ran the show with a goal and two assists against Newcastle last time out.
Manchester City’s last two home games have ended in big wins – following up their 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool with a 5-0 win at Newcastle United. In the latter, Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, an own goal, David Silva and Raheem Sterling helped City to victory. In between, however, in their most recent away game, they lost 1-0 at Southampton.
