Brazil will win this match.

Brazil vs Mexico Stats

Brazil are unbeaten in their last 15 matches – a run stretching back to August

Brazil have conceded just one goal in their last eight matches

Philippe Coutinho has been directly involved in at least one goal (scored or assisted) in each of Brazil’s last five matches

Brazil vs Mexico Betting Tips

Brazil stepped things up to beat Serbia in their final group game but still look like they have another gear to reach as they head into the knock-out stages. Gabriel Jesus has not yet scored, for example, and Neymar netted just once in the first three games.

Mexico were excellent in beating Germany in their first match but their momentum was spectacularly halted by Sweden in their final group game and if the previously goal-shy Swedes can do that to this Mexico defence, it is worrying what Brazil could achieve.

The Selecao have an abundance of attacking talent and Guillermo Ochoa, as excellent as he was against Germany and South Korea, can not keep saving Mexico – as proved to be the case against Sweden.

History is not on Mexico’s side either – they have lost at this stage in each of the last six World Cups – and they are very much outsiders for this one.

Brazil are now tournament favourites and will expect to beat Mexico after overcoming their slow start to reach this stage as group winners – and fairly comfortably too.

When Neymar, Jesus and others do hit top form, Tite’s side – unbeaten in their last 15 matches, and boasting seven clean sheets in their last eight games – will be formidable opposition.

Brazil vs Mexico Recommended bets with odds

Brazil are odds-on favourites to beat Mexico, with Betfair and Betway offering the best price of 8/15 on a Brazil win.

Given Brazil’s outstanding defensive record it is worth backing them to win to nil, however – which will improve those odds to 5/4 with Bet365 and Ladbrokes.

Separately, a Brazil clean sheet will return 10/11 with Ladbrokes, Betfair and Betway while you can bet against both teams to score at 8/11 with Betfair. Brazil are just 4/9 with Ladbrokes to score first, however.

Neymar is favourite to score at any time, and is worth backing at 21/20 with 10Bet as the tournament reaches the knock-out stages.

Philippe Coutinho has scored or assisted in each of the last five Brazil games, meanwhile. He scored three goals in that time, and is 21/10 with Betfair and Paddy Power to add another at any time against Mexico.

Brazil vs Mexico Top three bets

1) Brazil to win to nil at 5/4 with Ladbrokes
2) Neymar to score at any time at 21/20 with 10Bet
3) Both teams to score = “no” at 8/11 with Betfair

Brazil vs Mexico Prediction

Brazil are tournament favourites, while Mexico have not got past this stage in the last six tournaments. There should be no other outcome than a Brazil win on Monday.

Correct score prediction: Brazil 2-0 Mexico

Correct score best odds: 6/1 (Bet365)

Brazil Team News

Already without Danilo and Douglas Costa through injury for the final group game against Serbia, Brazil then saw Marcelo go off injured after just ten minutes. The Real Madrid wing-back is expected to recover from the back spasms he was suffering, but Costa – who was only the bench in the first two games – could miss out against Mexico. Danilo’s prognosis looks better, but Fagner may continue at right-back for the last-16 clash.

Brazil Key Players

Neymar (forward)- Scored his 56th international goal in the win against Costa Rica, having played just 88 times for Brazil.

Gabriel Jesus (forward) – Manchester City striker set up the first goal against Costa Rica, and will be keen to get among the goals himself now

Philippe Coutinho (midfielder/forward) – Scored in three consecutive Brazil matches and then turned provider to set up the opener against Serbia.

Brazil Group stage round up

Brazil 1-1 Switzerland
Brazil 2-0 Costa Rica
Brazil 2-0 Serbia

Philippe Coutinho’s brilliant strike was not enough to help Brazil kick-off the 2018 World Cup with a win against Switzerland and when they followed the 1-1 draw by struggling to break down Costa Rica in the following game, things looked bleak. Stoppage-time strikes by Coutinho and Neymar snatched a late three points, however, and Paulinho and Thiago Silva scored against Serbia to confirm Brazil progressed as Group E winners.

Brazil Team Form

Brazil team are unbeaten since a friendly against Argentina in August. As well as winning six of their last seven matches, Brazil have conceded just one goal in their last eight games – Switzerland’s equaliser in the opening group game. They beat Croatia and Austria earlier this month in their warm-up matches, before their draw and two wins in the World Cup group stage. Both Philippe Coutinho and Neymar have scored three goals in Brazil’s last five games.

Brazil Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

Mexico Team News

Mexico were unchanged from their win against South Korea to the crushing defeat against Sweden, but they will be forced to make at least one change to face Brazil with Hector Moreno suspended after picking up two yellow cards in the group stage. Hugo Ayala will replace him. Juan Carlos Osorio has so far stuck with largely the same XI, but must now decide whether to call upon the likes of Marco Fabian or Giovani dos Santos after the heavy defeat last time out.

Mexico Key Players

Javier Hernandez (striker) – Scored his 50th Mexico goal in the game against South Korea – one more will set a new national record for World Cup goals too.

Hirving Lozano (winger) – Scored the winner against Germany and then set up Javier Hernandez’s goal in the second game.

Guillermo Ochoa (goalkeeper) – Made nine saves against Germany in the opening match, and managed five more against South Korea as Mexico started the tournament with two wins.

Mexico Group stage round up

Mexico 1-0 Germany
Mexico 2-1 South Korea
Mexico 0-3 Sweden

Mexico started the group stage in excellent form, stunning defending champions Germany 1-0 in their first game thanks to Hirving Lozano’s goal. A 2-1 win against South Korea followed but Sweden burst the Mexican bubble with a 3-0 win in the final round of Group F fixtures – a result which ensured both teams went through as Germany lost to South Korea.

Mexico Team Form

Mexico football team have lost just two of their last six matches but both came against Scandinavian opposition. Denmark beat them in the final World Cup warm-up match and Sweden thrashed them last time out, but in between there was the 1-0 win against Germany and 2-1 defeat of South Korea.

Mexico Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Brazil qualified for the last-16 stage without reaching top form but the match-up with Mexico is one they should be winning, against a team who have lost at this stage at each of the last six consecutive World Cups. Mexico did beat Germany, but a 3-0 loss to Sweden has proved costly in terms of their potential route through the competition now. It is all academic, however, as Brazil should win and win well.
Mexico have been knocked out in the last 16 stage at the last six consecutive World Cups.
