Leicester City will win this match.
Leicester’s wins in their last two matches against Bournemouth were actually their first against the Cherries in the Premier League. They had previously drawn five and lost two but followed up last season’s 2-0 home win with a 3-1 win at the King Power Stadium in August. Jamie Vardy scored twice for Leicester with Youri Tielemans also on target. Callum Wilson had earlier cancelled out Vardy’s opener. Here are the results of their last five matches:
Aug 31, 2019: Leicester City 3-1 AFC Bournemouth
Mar 30, 2019 Leicester City 2-0 AFC Bournemouth
Sep 15, 2018: AFC Bournemouth 4-2 Leicester City
Mar 03, 2018: Leicester City 1-1 AFC Bournemouth
Sep 30, 2017: AFC Bournemouth 0-0 Leicester City
Three goals in two games for Jamie Vardy and four points have got Leicester back on track as they look to seal the Champions League place their earlier form this season deserves.
The Foxes have dropped to fourth, just a point above Manchester United, and if Manchester City’s CAS appeal against their Champions League ban is successful they need to stay in the top four.
Every point matters then, and with United in excellent form, Leicester need to match that – starting with a win at Bournemouth.
Bournemouth, for their part, ended a five-match losing streak last time out but have gone nine games without a win in all competitions.
They are now three points adrift of safety and a defeat in this match could see a dangerously big gap open up with just three games remaining after this one.
The Cherries’ lack of goals is a concern but they have been poor defensively too – two factors that should have Vardy and Leicester confident of success.
Leicester’s initial form on their return to action was poor, but they looked to have turned a corner now and this is now the time to kick on.
Leicester are odds-on favourites to beat out-of-form Bournemouth with 10Bet offering 5/7 on a Leicester win.
Both teams to score has been set at evens with Betfair, meanwhile, given Bournemouth have at least scored in their recent defeats.
Tottenham drew a blank against them last time out, but Bournemouth’s recent defeats were otherwise high-scoring ones. Over 2.5 goals will return 10/11 with Bet365.
For Leicester, Jamie Vardy is the obvious attacking threat and he can be backed at 49/50 with 888sport to score at any time.
Leicester City have got back to a bit of form and Bournemouth’s desperate search for a win could well go on even longer as a result.
Adam Smith is likely to miss out with the facial injury sustained against Spurs, while David Brooks will be assessed after feeling a tightness in that same game. Chris Mepham is managing a knee injury and Lloyd Kelly replaced him last time out.
Josh King – Five goals so far this season but beyond that he is a key part of the attack and the Cherries need him fit and firing.
Callum Wilson – Nearly snatched victory with an overhead kick last time out, but he still has eight goals for the season.
Aaron Ramsdale – A much-needed clean sheet last time out to end a run of poor defensive form and he will need more moving forward.
While they have still not won in nine matches, the goalless draw with Tottenham in mid-week at least ended a run of five straight defeats. It was also a marked defensive improvement from a 4-1 loss to Newcastle and 5-2 defeat to Manchester United. Dan Gosling and then Junior Stanislas and Josh King were Bournemouth’s scorers in those defeats.
James Maddison and Ben Chilwell remain sidelined having been unable to shake off injuries in time to face Arsenal. Leicester’s upturn in form could mean neither are rushed back anyway, though.
Jamie Vardy – Three goals in the last two games have got the former England striker firing again and he now has 22 league goals for the season.
Youri Tielemans – The midfielder has been rock-solid in the middle of the park and a game like this needs him to dictate the tempo.
Kelechi Iheanacho – Enjoyed a run in the starting line-up after scoring against Everton and Crystal Palace.
Leicester made a poor restart to action, but they have bounced back well since a 2-1 defeat at Everton. They put three past Crystal Palace, with Kelechi Iheanacho opening the scoring and Jamie Vardy netting twice, while Vardy also hit a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with ten-man Arsenal last time out.
