Peru

Our Prediction Tip

Peru will win this match.

Bolivia have not beaten Peru since October 2008. Since then, Peru have won four – including the last three in a row – and there have been four draws too. During the last World Cup qualification campaign, Bolivia did initially beat Peru 2-0 in their home tie as Pablo Escobar and Ronald Raldes scored, but it was found they had fielded an ineligible player. The game was consequently awarded to Peru as a 3-0 win, and they followed it by winning the reverse fixture 2-1 – Edison Flores and Cristian Cueva scoring for the hosts, before Gilbert Alvarez pulled one back.

BOL vs PER Betting Tips

Peru have not kicked on from qualifying for the last World Cup but this is a game in which they could build a platform to kick on.

While lacking goals themselves – they have scored twice in the last five games (Christian Cueva both times) and lost two of the other three – Peru are still favourites to beat Bolivia.

Bolivia, on the other hand, also lack goals – they have drawn blanks in six of their last seven games, only scoring in a 2-2 comeback draw against minnows Nicaragua.

Peru’s recent record has seen them fail to win any games in which they have conceded, but they are expected to concede in this one.

And another Pedro Gallese clean sheet will lay the platform for Paolo Guerrero, Edison Flores, Jefferson Farfan and, if fit, Christian Cueva, at the other end.

Four points from the opening two games will put Peru in a good position to reach the knockout stages, even if they do face hosts Brazil last.

Los Incas should be beating Bolivia – particularly given their good recent record in this fixture (albeit with one defeat overturned on a legality).

Their own goalscoring form suggests there may be little in it, but Peru start this game as favourites and should live up to that billing.

Peru vs Bolivia Recommended bets with odds

Peru are odds-on favourites to beat Bolivia and can be backed at 1/2 to do so with Bet365, Ladbrokes, Betfair, Paddy Power and Betway.

Given Bolivia’s lack of goals – and the fact Peru have kept clean sheets in three of their last five games – a Peru win to nil is worth backing too, at a best price of 6/5 with Bet365 and Betway.

You can also bet against both teams to score at 8/13 with Bet365, while a Peru clean sheet is priced at 4/5 with Bet365, Ladbrokes and Betfair.

Peru have lacked goals too and under 2.5 goals has been set at 8/11 with Bet365.

Paolo Guerrero leads the line for Los Incas and he is 5/4 to score at any time with Betway.

Bolivia vs Peru Prediction

After drawing a blank first up, Peru can not afford to do the same against Bolivia – but they should really be claiming all three points from this one.

Correct Score Prediction: Bolivia 0-1 Peru

Bolivia Team News

Fernando Saucedo started ahead of Samuel Galindo in the opening game against Brazil, but he was replaced by Diego Wayar shortly after Brazil’s two quickfire goals. Galindo or Wayar could replace him against Peru, but the solid first-half performance last time out may mean further changes are kept to a minimum.

Bolivia Key Players

Marcelo Martins – More caps and more goals than any other member of this squad, with 17 from 74 appearances for the national team.
Alejandro Chumacero – Like Martins, the Puebla winger is one of few players in the squad to play outside of Bolivia domestically and is also one of the more experienced.
Carlos Lampe – Peru drew a blank last time out and Lampe will be key if Bolivia are to follow Venezuela’s lead and shut down the Peruvian front line.

Bolivia Team Form

Bolivia have now lost their last four matches, all without scoring a goal. Friendly defeats to South Korea, Japan and France preceded the tournament and they lost 3-0 on the opening night to Brazil after a goalless first half. They have only scored in one of their last seven matches, and that was a 2-2 friendly draw with Nicaragua, in which they came back from 2-0 down.

Bolivia Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-1-1

Peru Team News

After criticism of their performance against Colombia in their final friendly, Ricardo Gareca wielded the axe ahead of the first game – Edison Flores, Andre Carrillo, Anderson Santamaria and Miguel Araujo all dropping to the bench. Flores came on at half-time, however, and Yoshimar Yotun started despite his red card – and subsequent public dressing down from Gareca – against Colombia. The defence could be unchanged this time out, after a clean sheet against Venezuela, but Flores could start in attacking midfield and the formation may be more familiar as Peru chase all three points. Christian Cueva went off injured in the opening game, but Peru will be keen for him to return given his recent match-winning impacts.

Peru Key Players

Paolo Guerrero – The hugely experienced captain could be soon to bow out and will want to add to his 35 international goals before he does.
Christian Cueva – The match winner against both Paraguay and Costa Rica – the last two goals Peru have scored – and they will hope he is fit to start this time out.
Edison Flores – Scored the last time these two teams met and will have a point to prove after being benched against Venezuela.

Peru Team Form

Christian Cueva scored the winning goal in each of Peru’s last two wins – 1-0 victories against Paraguay and Costa Rica. In between, however, they lost 2-0 in a friendly against El Salvador and geared up for the 2019 Copa America with a heavy 3-0 defeat to Colombia. Their opening match of this tournament ended in a goalless draw with Venezuela.

Peru Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

A goalless draw with Venezuela first up may have been an opportunity missed, but Peru can take a step closer to the knockouts by beating Bolivia in their second game. Bolivia were outplayed by hosts Brazil in the second half of the opening game and Peru will hope to be as ruthless up front.
Bolivia have lost their last four consecutive matches, all without scoring a goal.
