Our Prediction Tip

Bahrain will win this match.

Azerbaijan have handled their business with Bahrain in the past, winning both meetings to date.  They clashed in August of 2012 and they got a 3-0 win, following up a 1-2 win at Bahrain back in October of 2008.

BHR vs AZE Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Bahrain are at 7/5, a draw is at 11/5, and Azerbaijan are at 8/5.

No for both sides scoring is at 10/11.

Bahrain are currently in the middle of World Cup (second round) and Asian Cup qualification.  They are in Group C, and as of now they are on top of the pile through two matches with four points.  With Iran and Iraq in the group, they have their work cut out for them, but they are very much in the fight and should be throughout it.  Only the group winners and four of the eight runner-ups will advance to the final round of qualification, so they will have to keep up this pace to make sure of a chance to get there.

Azerbaijan, meanwhile, are not doing so well in their current qualification campaign.  In their bid to make it to Euro 2020, they are in last place in Group E with only a point from five matches.  They won’t be headed to the Euros unless something drastic happens, so every match, including this friendly, is going to be about building their program toward the next qualification cycle.

In the last year, Bahrain have nine wins, three draws, and four losses.  They have not lost since January 22nd.  In home matches, they have picked up four wins and a draw in the same time.  Azerbaijan have just two wins, three draws, and five losses in the past year.  In away matches, they have a win and three losses, with the victory coming over minnows Faroe Islands.

Bahrain vs Azerbaijan Prediction

Azerbaijan have won each of the two meetings between the teams so far, but Bahrain have an opportunity to change that here.  They get the win that will end that ‘run’ here.

Correct Score Prediction: Bahrain 1-0 Azerbaijan

Bahrain Team News

Helio Sousa has called up virtually the same side as he had for the last set of qualifiers.  The big name to have been left out is striker Mohamed Al Romaihi.

Bahrain Key Man

It takes a lot to dislodge a man that has over 100 caps and has scored 40 goals for his country, but that looks to be what Yusuf Helal has managed to do.  The 25 year-old is playing in Europe for Slavia Prague, and that’s given him a big leg up.  Thus far he’s got five goals for his nation and will look for more here.  Out wide, Kamil Al-Aswad will come into this match in good form.  He’s scored just three times for his country, but he got one his last time out, a winner in Cambodia, to give them four points in the group.

Bahrain Team Form

Bahrain have three wins and two draws in their last five matches:

0-1 win at Cambodia (WCQ)
1-1 home draw vs Iraq (WCQ)
0-1 win at Iraq (WAC)
0-1 win at Kuwait (WAC)
0-0 home draw vs Saudi Arabia (WAC)

Bahrain Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-5-1

Azerbaijan Team News

Nikola Jurcevic has called in what amounts to basically the same team he has been calling in.  So he’ll be looking to find the right combination to drive them forward to better results in the future.

Azerbaijan Key Man

Up front, Azerbaijan have a few young players they will have high hopes in.  One of them is Ramil Sheydaev, who has scored three goals in just 22 appearances.  He plays his football in Russia with Spartak Moscow, so he’s certainly been getting tested in that division.  The most experienced man on the pitch, for them at least, will be Javid Huseynov.  He’s got 55 caps and will be the man tasked with organizing them as they play in a hostile, unfamiliar environment.

Azerbaijan Team Form

Azerbaijan have two draws and three losses in their last five matches:

1-1 home draw vs Croatia (ECQ)
2-1 loss at Wales (ECQ)
1-5 home loss vs Slovakia (ECQ)
1-3 home loss vs Hungary (ECQ)
0-0 home draw vs Lithuania (Fri)

Azerbaijan Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

As far as stats go, this one couldn't be more clear cut. Bahrain have some form to them, while Azerbaijan do not. Relatively speaking, though, it could be argued, and will be by many, that the visitors face tougher opposition more regularly than the hosts. That may well ring true, but with Bahrain at home and on that kind of run, it sure is hard to see them losing out here.
Azerbaijan have failed to win any of their last seven matches while Bahrain haven't been beaten in their last six.
