Aston Villa earned an unlikely draw against an out-of-form United team when they last met, in their first game since Villa were promoted. Jack Grealish put Villa in front, but an unfortunate Tom Heaton own goal levelled the scores. Victor Lindelof then put United ahead but Tyrone Mings earned Villa a point. It did, however, mean Villa have won just one of their last 41 Premier League matches against United.
Prior to Aston Villa’s relegation, Manchester United had an excellent record in this fixture and they can get back to that in this game.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were in trouble around the turn of the year, with their home draw with Villa summing up their poor form at the time.
Since then, however, and in particular since Bruno Fernandes arrived, they have been so vastly improved.
The Portuguese playmaker has scored and assisted plenty, and with Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all in the goals last time out, it bodes well going forward.

Matt Targett will not be out for as long as first feared, but he is set to miss this match. Tyrone Mings is also expected to recover at the back, and Jack Grealish is not expected to miss out either as he manages a very minor calf injury.
Jack Grealish – Villa need goals and the creative midfielder is the man to supply them, given he leads the scoring and assists charts.
Douglas Luiz – The more defensive minded of the midfielders, it will be the former Manchester City man’s task to keep Bruno Fernandes under wraps.
Tyrone Mings – Will lead the defence if fit, and United’s in-form forwards will pose a big threat up front given their recent goalscoring feats.
Villa are now winless in ten matches as they failed to turn a good performance against champions Liverpool into a win at the weekend. Instead, two late goals consigned them to a 2-0 defeat, to follow the 1-0 loss to Wolves a week earlier.
Mason Greenwood has taken full advantage of his recent starts to stake his claim for more starts moving forward. He could feature in front four again for this match, which would mean one of Fred or Nemanja Matic having to settle for a place on the bench to accommodate that system.
