Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Arsenal are at 9/20 to win, a draw is at 7/2, and a Southampton win is at 11/2.

Arsenal will enter the weekend in fifth place in the Premier League on 50 points at the moment.  That puts them just one off the pace of Manchester United and level with Chelsea on points in that battle for the ever important final Champions League place.  If they should fail in their quest to make it via the league route, they still have an avenue, however, after they advanced to the Europa League Round of 16 on Thursday by beating BATE.  With three wins from their last four and nine points from their last five league games, it’s a little tough to get a read on them.  However, at home they are much, much better, so this should be viewed as an excellent opportunity for them to get three points for their top four charge.

Southampton, meanwhile, are in 18th place at the start of the weekend.  The good news is that they are just a point behind two clubs and only a further two behind three more, so there are candidates to replace them.  On top of that, they look to be clear of Fulham, so that’s no trouble.  One spot to stay out of, by the appearance now.  A win could take them out of the bottom three and up around 15th, but it will depend on other results.  They have failed to win any of their last three and have just two points from those games having won the previous two.  A loss at home to Cardiff last time out will have left them stinging badly.

At home, the Gunners have the third best record in the league with 32 points from 13 games.  They only trail Manchester City and Liverpool in that respect, a fine accomplishment for sure.  They have been racking up the wins recently at the Emirates, too, with five coming in a row.  They have also failed to lose any of their last ten, pointing towards the building of a fortress in London for them akin to the days of Highbury.  They have only lost once at home this season, so it’s hard to see them losing their second to Saints.

Speaking of the Saints, they enter this match having collected 12 points from their 13 road trips so far.  It’s not a bad return to have three wins and three draws, but it’s also not the best, and it’s hard to suggest they are anything but rank outsiders in this clash.  With that said, Hasenhuttl has had them pick it up of late.  They have not lost any of their last four away matches, taking eight points from those clashes.  This shows they have some fight left to them under the Austrian.

Both sides to score can be had for 1.72 at Betfair.

Ladbrokes have Lacazette scoring first or last at 7/2 odds.

Arsenal vs Southampton Prediction

Arsenal won’t have it all that easy at home to the Saints, but they will come through in the end thanks to their extra quality.  Emery finds a way to take his charges to yet another home win while harming Southampton’s survival bid.

Correct Score Prediction: Arsenal 3-1 Southampton

Arsenal Team News

Unai Emery continues to be without forward Danny Welbeck and defenders Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding due to injuries.  After playing in the Europa League on Thursday, look for some rotation to occur with goalkeeper being amongst the changes and Alexandre Lacazette returning having been suspended in midweek.  Unfortunately, it looks like center back Laurent Koscielny has picked up yet another injury, so he is due to miss some more time on the pitch.

Arsenal Key Man

The reverse fixture summed up Arsenal to a T: explosive at the front, weak at the back.  With that still being the case, they need a big performance from center back Shkodran Mustafi, who helped keep a clean sheet at home to BATE and also scored a goal.  Going forward, Alexandre Lacazette will be roaring to go out and follow up a goal in the win over Huddersfield last time out.  The Frenchman will be very fresh, and he’ll seek to add to his record of ten goals and five assists that he has already piled up.

Arsenal Team Form

The Gunner have three wins and two losses in their last five matches:

3-0 home win vs BATE Borisov (UEL)
1-0 loss at BATE Borisov (UEL)
1-2 win at Huddersfield
3-1 loss at Manchester City
2-1 home win vs Cardiff

Arsenal Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

Southampton Team News

Ralph Hasenhuttl is missing the injured duo of forward Michael Obafemi and defensive midfielder Mario Lemina for this clash in London.  Danny Ings, who scored two against the Gunners in the win in December, looks set to miss out as well with a fresh injury of his own picked up a couple of weeks ago.

Southampton Key Man

Southampton are in very big trouble.  They have sent away some of their biggest, most established stars and have been left with scraps.  With Ings set to miss out, they desperately need the athletic yet profligate Shane Long to step up.  He can and will work his socks off, but the Saints need end product more than anything currently, and he must be the one to provide it for them.  Getting it there is another issue, but Ryan Bertrand is plenty capable.  He’s had a down season, no doubt, but the England left back can put a delicious cross in and cause problems down the flank when in form.

Southampton Team Form

The Saints have a loss, three draws, and a win in their last five matches:

1-2 home loss vs Cardiff
1-1 draw at Burnley
1-1 home draw vs Crystal Palace
2-1 home win vs Everton
2-2 home draw, penalty loss vs Derby County (FA Cup)

Southampton Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 3-5-2

Arsenal's streak at home has been more than impressive in the Premier League, and though they have lost some there to some of the country's biggest teams, they should be considered guilt-edge favorites here. The Gunners have more work to be done at the back under Emery, but they have plenty going forward to wipe the Saints off the map and to collect three points that the visitors would absolutely relish.
Arsenal haven't lost at home in the PL since the opening match of the season against Manchester City. It's a run of 12 without a defeat at the Emirates, with only two draws taking place in that time.
