Our Prediction Tip

Draw will win this match.

There have been over 200 games between these two sides over the years but the head-to-head record is very even. The Gunners have 78 wins, while Liverpool have claimed 83 victories, and there have also been a round 50 draws in this fixture.

Arsenal are undefeated in their last five matches against Liverpool, although three of those matches, including both games in last year's Premier League, have ended in a draw. Liverpool have not been able to record a win at Arsenal since a 2-0 victory in August 2011.

Arsenal v Liverpool: Prediction

Games between the giants of the Premier League do not typically happen this early in the season, so it is difficult to judge exactly where these clubs are at after the summer break. Injury crises at both clubs make it difficult to predict the starting XIs on show, but home advantage and the edge in the recent head-to-head in this fixture might just give Arsenal a narrow victory here.

Arsenal v Liverpool: Betting Tips

The bookmakers have made Arsenal narrow favourites to take the three points and Wenger's men can be backed at a price of 7/5 to get off to a winning start, while the visitors Liverpool are at a best price of 5/2. There seems to be plenty of value in the odds of 5/2 for a draw on Sunday.

Both teams to score appeals at a price of 7/9 and from the correct scores market, 6/1 on a 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday is good value too.

Arsene Wenger had planned to give his Euro 2016 stars an extended rest, but yet another injury crisis at the Emirates Stadium may force the Frenchman to change his plans. Laurent Koscielny is expected to play as Gabriel and Per Mertesacker are injured, with new signing Rob Holding another option at the back.

Olivier Giroud is being rested, so Theo Walcott will get a chance to press his claims to play as a striker, with Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez likely to start despite featuring in international tournaments over the summer break. Granit Xhaka makes his debut in midfield.

Arsenal likely XI:

Cech, Bellerin, Chambers, Koscielny, Monreal, Sanchez, Xhaka, Ozil, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott.

Liverpool also have injury problems for the first Premier League game of the season. With Daniel Sturridge expected to miss out, Jurgen Klopp might ask Roberto Firmino to fill in as a false nine, with Sadio Mane and Ragnar Klavan in line to make their league debuts for the club.

James Milner could be the man to miss out in midfield as he is also an injury doubt, with summer signings Joel Matip and Loris Karius both out too, meaning Simon Mignolet continues in goal.

Liverpool likely XI:

Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Moreno, Can, Henderson, Lallana, Coutinho, Mane, Firmino.

Arsenal and Liverpool will both be hoping to mount a challenge for the Premier League title this year, but it is perhaps more likely that qualifying for the Champions League is the best that they can hope for. This match will be a good indication of the progress of these clubs, with a draw appearing to be by far the most likely result on the day.
Arsenal are undefeated in their last 10 Premier League matches and have kept a clean sheet in their three previous games.
