Our Prediction Tip

Algeria will win this match.

Across six meetings in the past, Algeria have just one win against Guinea.  Guinea have three wins and two draws.

Here's a look at three results, all of which were friendlies, that have taken place this decade:

Jun 6, 2017: Algeria 2-1 Guinea
Oct 9, 2015: Algeria 1-2 Guinea
Aug 14, 2013: Algeria 2-2 Guinea

ALG vs GUI Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Algeria are at 8/11 to win, a draw is at 11/5, and a Guinea win is at 19/4.

Algeria will enter this match as massive favorites to win and advance, and are one of the top contenders to take home the trophy as well.  They have only lost once in the last year, and they have rattled off three wins from three in the group stage to send them into this match in brilliant form.  They defeated Kenya, Senegal, an especially dangerous foe, and Tanzania along the way, and they look like one of the most complete teams on the continent.

Guinea are a good side, but they have a lot of woes both at home and abroad at the moment, not to mention injury woes, too.  Despite all of that, they got a draw and a win in the group and were able to claw their way into this Round of 16 encounter.  All you can ask for is a chance, and that’s what they have, though it’s quite a tough one against the Algerians.  Just one victory, the one over Burundi last time out, in their last eight games, sees them enter in poor form.

Ladbrokes have no for both sides scoring at 2/5.

Betfair have Mahrez scoring anytime at 3.6.

Algeria vs Guinea Prediction

Guinea did very well to recover and make their way into the knockout rounds, but this is the point in which their journey will end at the hands of a battle-tested, experienced, all-round great Algerian side.

Correct Score Prediction: Algeria 2-0 Guinea

Algeria Team News

Djamel Belmadi had the opportunity and took it to rest some of his players for the third group match, so we should see the team that played against Senegal return for this Round of 16 fixture, with one or two exceptions possible, of course.

Algeria Key Man

To have a rested Riyad Mahrez available must be an absolute dream, and that’s what the Algerians have here for this match.  The Manchester City man endured a tough club season but he’s already grabbed a goal in the group stage and will look to add to that here.  Islam Slimani hasn’t been an automatic starter, but he could well stay in the starting XI here after he scored once and assisted twice in the win over Tanzania last time out.  That’s the production they need from him, and it could be a recipe for even more success.

Algeria Team Form

Algeria have four wins and a draw in their last five matches:

0-3 win vs Tanzania
0-1 win vs Senegal
2-0 win vs Kenya
3-2 home win vs Mali (Fri)
1-1 home draw vs Burundi (Fri)

Algeria Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-5-1

Guinea Team News

Paul Put has a big worry over the fitness of midfielder Naby Keita, and it doesn’t look like he will play.  If he does, he will clearly not be in very good shape and might be setting himself up for disaster.

Guinea Key Man

Guinea can thank attacking midfielder Mohamed Yattara for their place in this knockout round match after he scored twice, once in either half, in their win over Burundi that saw them move on.  In midfield, Amadou Diawara is going to have a very, very big task on his hands.  The nine-capped Napoli man has tons of potential, but without Keita alongside him he might find it tough to suppress the Algerians and provide a platform on which for his side to attack from.

Guinea Team Form

Guinea have a win, three losses, and a draw in their last five matches:

0-2 win vs Burundi
1-0 loss vs Nigeria
2-2 draw vs Madagascar
3-1 loss at Egypt (Fri)
1-0 loss at Benin (Fri)

Guinea Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

It's very, very difficult to think of a way that Algeria don't come out on top here in Cairo. They have looked dominant so far, keeping clean sheets in three consecutive victories, and it's going to take a whole lot of skill and luck to unseat them. That's just not something that Guinea have at the current time, and Algeria will punish them and pitch yet another shutout.
Algeria are on a real roll at the moment, as they haven't lost since October. That's their only loss in the last year, a run of 12 matches.
