Ajax will win this match.
The first leg, which ended 2-0 in favor of Getafe back in Spain, was the first time that Ajax had faced them.
Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:
Ajax are at 17/20, a draw is at 5/2, and Getafe are at 16/5.
Ajax will come into this match still on top of the table in the Dutch Eredivisie, but the race took another turn on Sunday as they lost. It was just their fourth league loss of the season, though it was their second in the last four in the league. That means they still definitely have work to do there to secure another title. But don’t forget, even being two goals down, this is a very tough side that is still close to the team that made the semis of the UCL a season ago.
Getafe will also come into this game off the back of a defeat. The loss in La Liga left them outside the top four, for now, as Sevilla leapfrogged them with the dominant win. It’s been a very tough stretch of matches for them, so you can’t blame them. They will be in for a hard one here as well, as you can be assured they will be kicking and screaming all the way throughout it. Two losses in the league, though against big sides, might have them thinking they need this to make the Champions League.
Ajax’s home record this season in all competitions includes 15 wins and just three defeats so far this season. Two of those losses came in the Champions League, to Chelsea and to Valencia, helping to explain why they are here and not in that comp any longer. They are still a major danger, however. As for Getafe, they have eight wins, three draws, and six losses on the road in all comps for quite the respectable record. They have lost three of their last five, with one at Barcelona, a team that is similar to Ajax, but it was only by one clear goal, to be fair.
Ladbrokes have Ajax leading after 75 minutes at 19/20.
Betfair have Ajax going through at 5.5 odds.
This one just looks like the kind of tie that could go to extra time. Getafe are going to have issues scoring, you’d think, so Ajax just need to be patient. They get it to extra time and eventually find a way to move on.
Erik ten Hag has a few men out that are holding him back a bit, with David Neres, Zakaria Labyad, Quincy Promes, Joel Veltman, and Noussair Mazraoui all limiting his options to chop and change a bit.
They might not be at full strength, but Ajax still have plenty about them here to overturn the tie, especially with Dusan Tadic in the team. He’s not been quite as good as he was last term, but he still has ridiculous numbers and can threaten Getafe in a serious manner. The same might just be said for future Chelsea man Hakim Ziyech. The sought after versatile attacker can change a game in the blink of an eye with his cultured left boot. Look for that to be central to their hopes of a fight back.
Ajax have two losses and three wins in their last five matches:
1-0 loss at Heracles
2-0 loss at Getafe (UEL)
3-0 home win vs RKC Waalwijk
0-3 win at Vitesse (Cup)
1-0 home win vs PSV
Jose Bordelas only has a couple men in doubt here, with Antunes and Filip Manojlovic unlikely to get a run out.
He might not be a widely known left back right now, but if he plays like he did in the first leg, he will be before much longer. With two assists back in Spain, Mathias Olivera is a man to watch here. He can unlock Ajax, particularly if they come too far forward. Up front, Deyverson will also offer them a threat that will force the Dutch side on their toes a bit. It’s tricky, and he will come in in decent form having registered a goal, the opener, in the aforementioned victory.
Getafe have two losses and three wins in their last five matches:
0-3 home loss vs Sevilla
2-0 home win vs Ajax (UEL)
2-1 loss at Barcelona
3-0 home win vs Valencia
0-2 win at Athletic Bilbao
