Ajax
VS
Chelsea

Our Prediction Tip

Ajax will win this match.

A little surprisingly, this will be the first European fixture between last year’s Champions League semi-finalists and the Europa League champions. In fact, Chelsea have not met any Dutch opposition since beating Feyenoord home and away in 2000.

AJA vs CFC Betting Tips

Two young teams go head to head in Amsterdam, but it is the Ajax youngsters who have starred on the big stage over the past 18 months or so.

Their run to the Champions League semi-finals last season highlighted what Ajax can do, and their squad was not plundered to the extent many thought it could be.

Of course, some players moved on but they are unbeaten in 17 matches in all competitions so far this season to prove they have not been too negatively affected.

In the Champions League in particular they have remained hugely impressive – beating Lille and Valencia 3-0 in their two games so far.

Dusan Tadic, one of the older players in this squad, has picked up where he left off last season with plenty of goals and assists and Quincy Promes and Hakim Ziyech have contributed plenty alongside him too.

Chelsea’s youngsters have hit form too, although they have been inconsistent at best this season. Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori have all taken their chances this season, while Callum Hudson-Odoi is fit again and back in the team, and Reece James is knocking on the door.

They are all good signs for the Blues’ future, and the present is not going too badly either – beating Lille in their last Champions League game and climbing to fourth in the Premier League too.

Ajax will pose a stern test, however and Chelsea’s results against Manchester United, Valencia and Liverpool earlier this season show the Blues’ inconsistency.

If Ajax take the game to Chelsea, question marks remain over their defense – particularly given their recent injury troubles.

And with Tadic, Promes, Ziyech and van de Beek in top form, there are plenty of goals in this Ajax team.

Chelsea vs Ajax Recommended bets with odds

Ajax are favourites to beat Chelsea at home and yet can still be backed at a generous 11/8 with Bet365, Betfair and Betway.

Both teams have in-form attacking players, however, and both teams to score has been set at 1/2 with Bet365, Betfair and Paddy Power.

Over 2.5 goals has been priced at 8/13 with Bet365 and over 3.5 returns a best price of 8/5 with Betfair.

As for the goalscorers, Dusan Tadic is in fine form for Ajax and is a best price of 17/10 to score at any time. Quincy Promes is 13/5 with Betfair and Paddy Power. For Chelsea, Tammy Abraham is 13/8 with Betfair and Paddy Power.

Ajax vs Chelsea Prediction

Ajax are unbeaten so far this season and have looked particularly good in the Champions League. If they take the game to Chelsea, they could produce another big result.

Correct Score Prediction: Ajax 3-1 Chelsea

Ajax Team News

Unlike Chelsea, Ajax have a fully-fit squad to choose from for this fixture. That means the usual selection debates – with Dusan Tadic likely to lead the line alone, meaning Klaas-Jan Huntelaar dropping back to the bench only.

Ajax Key Players

Dusan Tadic – The move to Ajax has reinvigorated his career. After an excellent season last time out, he now has nine goals and ten assists in this campaign too.
Quincy Promes – Scored one of his eight goals in this season as Ajax beat Valencia in their most recent Champions League game, as well as netting the winner in their last league game.
Hakim Ziyech – The Moroccan winger has nine assists so far this season, as well as scoring five goals himself – including one in the last Champions League game.

Ajax Team Form

Ajax have won their last five matches in a row, including their 3-0 victory in Valencia in the last Champions League fixture. Hakim Ziyech, Quincy Promes and Donny van de Beek scored Ajax’s goals in that 3-0 win. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and David Neres then scored in a 2-0 league win at ADO Den Haag, before Dusan Tadic and Quincy Promes netted as Ajax beat RKC Waalwijk 2-1 at the weekend.

Ajax Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Chelsea Team News

Frank Lampard’s injury list has got longer again, with Andreas Christensen out for two weeks and Ross Barkley hobbling off at the weekend. N’Golo Kante, Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were already sidelined, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Emerson are to be assessed. The former appears the more likely to be passed fit. Mateo Kovacic looks set to replace Barkley.

Chelsea Key Players

Tammy Abraham – Back in the goals last time out, with his eighth of the season putting Chelsea in front at Lille.
Mason Mount – An outstanding talent that, like Abraham, has taken full advantage of his opportunity. He has three goals so far this season and pulls the creative strings.
Willian – Scored in each of Chelsea’s last two matches to issue a timely reminder of his own worth in that front three.

Chelsea Team Form

Chelsea were unconvincing in their 1-0 win against Newcastle at the weekend – Marcos Alonso scoring the only goal – but it was still a fifth win in a row for the Blues. They beat Lille in their last Champions League game – Tammy Abraham and Willian scoring in a 2-1 win – and then beat Southampton 4-1 in between – Abraham, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi all netting in that game.

Chelsea Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

Ajax come into this game with home advantage and in superb form - as evident from their 3-0 win in Valencia on the last Champions League match day. Chelsea's young players have been hit and miss, meanwhile, and Ajax could take advantage by cementing their place atop Group H.
Ajax are unbeaten in all competitions. In fact, their unbeaten streak of 19 games stretches back to last year's last-minute Champions League semi-final second leg defeat - the only game out of the last 30 they have lost in all competitions.
