20 year old Akram Afif has been baptized by fire here.  The Sporting Gijon man, on loan from Villarreal in La Liga, has been given the chance to learn the hard way in the very center of midfield.  He has impressed in every step of his career so far, earning chance after chance in Spain due to his fine play in youth tournaments, and it's hoped that he will be able to take that form into international competition at the senior level. He certainly has the skill, but does he have the know-how to be able to produce the way he's needed at this level yet?

Qatar still are working on a plan that will see them become competitive in time for 2022, so this was never going to be an make or break moment for them. Their manager, though, could be managing for his very job. In order for them to see results, they need to test themselves in matches like these. Uzbekistan has been growing in stature over the last few years, and they are well within reach of at least a playoff place at the moment. They really should be firming that up to make sure they get one step closer to Russia.
