South Korea vs Honduras Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

South Korea are at 8/13 to win, a draw is at 12/5, and a Honduras win is at 11/2.

South Korea largely strolled through World Cup Qualification this cycle. In the second round, which was a group stage, the South Koreans won all eight matches, didn't concede a goal, and they scored 27 of their own.  After that, they went into Group A of the third and final round.  Needing to finish in the top two to book a place in Russia, they would finish second.  Despite being seven back of group winners Iran, they never really looked like finishing lower despite playing somewhat poorly compared to what you'd expect to see them at.  Honduras had a much bumpier road that ended before Russia.  They narrowly avoided embarrassment by seeing off Canada by just a point in the fourth round of qualification in CONCACAF.  This got them into the Hex- the final six- in the North American region, and once there they were part of a mad scramble for the top four places on the final day.  They slid into fourth on the final day, which was good enough for them to face Australia in an intercontinental playoff.  However, they were not good enough to overcome that test.

South Korea have five wins, six draws, and five losses in the last calendar year of football.  Four of the five losses came in friendlies, and the other was away to Qatar in a bit of a surprise in qualifying.  Only one of those losses came at home, so they are quite strong at home, and they should be looked at as big favorites against a Honduran side that don't tend to travel very well.  As for the Hondurans, they have just two wins (three if you count the 3-0 forfeit over French Guiana in the Gold Cup), six draws, and four losses in the last year.  They had real issues for a while, but they picked up points in four straight qualifiers to sneak into the playoff before bowing out.  Three of the four losses were away from home, and the other was to Costa Rica on neutral ground.

Son to score anytime is at 5/4 on Ladbrokes.

South Korea vs Honduras Prediction

South Korea just aren't quite up to par like they have been in the past. They have a few very solid players in their ranks, but they will be right up against it in Russia in a few weeks, no matter the result here against Honduras.

Correct Score Prediction: South Korea 2-0 Honduras

Team News

Shin Tae-Yong has called in his preliminary World Cup squad now, and he has not made all that many big changes or calls.  However, he is missing a few players due to injury that he'd have liked to have had. Midfielders Yeom Ki-Hun and Kwon Chang-Hoon and striker Lee Keun-Ho are among those. The biggest name left off entirely looks to be striker Ji Dong-Won.

Key Man

South Korea have some very good players in their squad in certain areas of the pitch and are always very technical, but they sometimes lack that cutting edge to put them over the top against the big European teams.  That is where Son Heung-Min comes in. The Tottenham star has had another very good season in English football, and he will look to add to his 20 goals for his nation. It could be enticing to see him play alongside Hwang, the Red Bull Salzburg man, who is just getting his feet wet in international football.

Team Form

South Korea have two losses, two wins, and a draw in their last five matches:

3-2 loss at Poland
2-1 loss at Northern Ireland
1-0 home win vs Latvia
2-2 home draw vs Jamaica
1-0 home win vs Moldova

South Korea Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 5-4-1

Team News

Carlos Tabora has some big choices to make over the next couple of years.  Does he go ahead and phase out most of the older players or will he keep them around and make the transition a little tougher later?  For now, we see him going with younger players across the board as they look to gain experience toward the next Gold Cup and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Key Man

For whatever reason, Honduras has been slow in changing over the guard for about a decade now. They, though, have some really promising young players that can do a lot of damage if they are allowed the chance to play together. Two such players belong to Houston Dynamo in MLS. Romell Quioto and Alberth Elis both have electrifying pace and great skills on the ball from wide positions. They could be just what is needed to ring in a new era.

Team Form

Honduras have a loss, three draws, and a win in their last five matches:

3-1 loss at Australia (WC Playoff)
0-0 home draw vs Australia (WC Playoff)
3-2 home win vs Mexico (WCQ)
1-1 draw at Costa Rica (WCQ)
1-1 home draw vs USA (WCQ)

Honduras Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 5-4-1

South Korea will come into this match as favorites to win. Honduras are a decent side, but they have failed to qualify for the World Cup at the expense of Australia in a playoff. Australia and South Korea are fairly comparable, and with the South Koreans being at home, you have to like their chances to win in a pretty close encounter.
South Korea have three wins and three draws in their last six home matches.
