Reason: The bookmakers have Real Madrid as big favorites here because they are a very good team at home.  They have lost their just the once this season, and that was last weekend against Barcelona.  Also, Valencia's away record has been abysmal as has their head to head record with Real Madrid.  Lastly, there is the league position between the two.  Valencia have been very stop-start, and Madrid have been quite consistent in their results, so it is easy to see why they are favored so highly.

Team News

Zinedine Zidane will be unable to call upon center back Pepe and winger Gareth Bale.  Pepe continues to be out, but it does look like Raphael Varane could be ready to feature again in up coming matches.  Also, it looks like Gareth Bale will be out at least another couple of week for Los Blancos.  The Welshman has a calf injury, and it could hurt them badly.  Thankfully for them, they have Asensio waiting in the wings.  For this match, Zidane has to look at rotating some and keeping his side fresh, or he could risk burning them out for the matches with Atleti.  He has a hugely expensive squad as well as some youngsters to call upon, so he really has no excuse but to find a way to win and rest some players.

Key Man

Alvaro Morata is a wanted man by just about everyone, save, well, Real Madrid it appears.  The 24 year old Spanish international is perhaps the most talented striker on the planet that isn't a regular at his club.  Last season, he did so well at Juventus that Real Madrid couldn't allow him to stay there.  So they used an option to recall him.  And he's been spending most of his time on the bench this season.  But when called upon, he comes on and scores usually.  He got a start on Wednesday, and he got yet another goal to take his tally to 13 goals in 22 appearances, many of those coming off the bench.  Morata can play a key role on Saturday, and he can turn a few more heads ahead of what surely will be a move in the summer to pastures new.

Team Form

Real Madrid have four wins and one loss in their last five matches in all competitions.  They won 1-2 away in the first leg to of the Champions League quarterfinals to Bayern Munich before nervously going to Sporting and winning 2-3 with a very changed side.  Next, they saw off Bayern 4-2 at home to advance to the semi-finals.  A 2-3 home loss to Barcelona threw the title race back into focus, but they rebounded with a 2-6 away win at Deportivo on Wednesday.

Expected Line-up: 4-3-3

Real Madrid likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Navas

  • Defenders:Danilo, Varane, Fernandez, Marcelo

  • Midfielders:Kovacic, Rodriguez, Isco

  • Forwards:Vasquez, Asensio, Morata

Team News

Voro will be unable to call upon center back Aymen Abdennour, left back Jose Gaya, and striker Rodrigo due to injuries for this match.  These are three players that are very talented, but each have been slight let downs when on the pitch this season.  That's largely been the case with the entire side, and Voro will hope to see glimpses of a brighter future in order to see him remain in the job come the summer months.

Key Man

After that horror spell at West Ham where he seemingly did nothing for months, Simone Zaza seems to have recaptured a semblance of his form and true potential with Valencia.  The Italian international scored last time out to give him five goals in 17 appearances for his new club.  And that has seen him pull to within one goal of the team lead.  Such has been the lack of consistent goal scoring from this side that we are able to say that.  It's a telling stat, and it is one that will need to be fixed next season if Valencia are to press on further in the table.

Team Form

Valencia have two losses, a draw, and two wins in their last five matches.  Wins over Celta Vigo (at home 3-2) and Granada (away 1-3) gave them hope of ending the season on a high.  A 0-0 home draw with Sevilla continued those hopes, but since then they have lost twice.  The first was a 2-0 defeat at Malaga, and the second came on Wednesday as they lost 2-3 at home to Real Sociedad.

Expected Line-up: 4-2-3-1

Valencia likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Alves

  • Defenders:Montoya, Santos, Garay, Siqueira

  • Defensive Midfielders:Perez, Soler

  • Attacking Midfielders:El Haddadi, Orellana, Nani

  • Forwards:Zaza

Real Madrid have a huge match in midweek that they will be keeping one eye on. It\'s the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals with Atletico Madrid. That match will take precedence over this one, no doubt, but how much it takes over this match will be important. Zidane is very likely to rest some players, but how many can he risk? Against Sporting Gijon earlier this month, they had to scratch and claw to escape with a narrow victory when they totally changed the side. They are at home this time, though, so that should help them a little. This match is also important because La Liga is on the line. One more loss for them will put them level on points with the Catalans for real (assuming the game in hand is won, that is). And that would mean that they would likely end up blowing a title. One would imagine that heads would roll in the Spanish capital if Zidane were to go without a Champions League trophy OR the Primera crown after the position they\'d been in. As for Valencia, they have done well to get out of possible relegation trouble. They are in 12th place on 40 points, and have epitomized a mid-table club this season. It\'s hoped that Voro could be the man to lead them back into the top half come next season, but he must find a way to get these very talented players in a rhythm and to create some chemistry for them. They shouldn\'t be in 12th, but they haven\'t earned anything better with their performances this season. They have, at least on paper, little hope of a result in the capital here.
Real Madrid have been phenomenal at home this season. With the exception of that 2-3 loss to Barcelona last weekend and the 1-2 loss in normal time to Bayern in the Champions League, this Real Madrid side have been nearly perfect at the Bernabeu. That has allowed them to build a huge gap that took some time for Barcelona to close, and yet they still have a match in hand to them. Valencia, on the other hand, have a horrible away record. They have lost ten of their 17 away matches, many of them being against below average teams. They shouldn\'t concern Real all that much on Saturday.
