Philadelphia Union vs DC United Betting Tips

Philadelphia Union may find themselves bottom of the MLS's Eastern Conference after three consecutive defeats, but they will be confident of pulling themselves back above DC United after Sunday's match.

The visitors have been poor in front of goal, and last month's 4-0 Philadelphia Union win in this fixture highlighted DC's problems at both ends of the pitch.

CJ Sapong has scored nine times this season - only three less than DC United have managed as a whole team - and Philadelphia have not been that bad at the back either, with 20 goals conceded in 15 games.

It all adds up to what could be a difficult day for DC United, despite the form book and the league table, as Philadelphia look to bounce back to winning ways.

Philadelphia Union vs DC United Recommended bets with odds

Philadelphia are favourites to win, with Bovada offering 77/100 on the hosts and 17/5 on an away win.

Given their poor form in front of goal, it is little surprise to see Bovada offering 8/25 on DC United scoring less than 1.5 goals on Sunday too - still a good bet if the form book is anything to go by. More generously, they are offering evens if you say no to both teams to score.

Philadelphia won their last meeting with DC United 4-0, meanwhile, and the odds on a repeat are 28/1. Given their own recent struggles, however, the hosts will no doubt be just as happy with a 1-0 victory - a result for which Bovada are offering odds of 7/1.

Correct Score Prediction: Philadelphia Union 1-0 DC United

Team News

Alejandro Bedoya is a doubt for Philadelphia, suffering from a hamstring strain, while Maurice Edu (broken leg), Fabian Herbers (torn muscle) and Brian Carroll (herniated disc) are all definitely out injured. Defender Joshua Yaro has been back in the squad, however, after missing the start of the season with injury. Derrick Jones was sent off against New York Red Bulls and is therefore suspended.

Key Players

CJ Sapong has fired in nine goals in 16 games this season for Philadelphia, while Chris Pontius has laid on six assists.

Team Form

Last weekend's 2-0 defeat at home to New York Red Bulls was Philadelphia's third consecutive loss in the league, after away defeats to New York City and Real Salt Lake too. They did beat City Islander's 3-1 in the US Open Cup, however. Their last league win was a 2-1 defeat of Colorado on May 21.

Team News

DC United have had a long injury list to contend with, and Rob Vincent, Nick DeLeon, Sean Franklin, Patrick Mullins and Bobby Boswell all remain sidelined. It significantly reduces Ben Olsen's options for rotating players, having only played on Thursday, but given they won 2-1 against Atlanta United, it could well be an unchanged team anyway. Lloyd Sam is among those pushing for a recall.

Key Players

DC United'a poor form in front of goal seems to have been ended on Thursday, with Patrick Nyarko's first goal of the campaign ending DC's winless run. Luciano Acosto also scored in that game - his fourth of the campaign putting him top of their scoring charts.

Team Form

DC United's 2-1 win at home to Atlanta on Thursday ended a run on three games without a goal, with their most recent away game being last weekend's 2-0 defeat in Toronto. Despite their poor form in front of goal, DC did win 4-1 in the US Open Cup against Christos ten days ago.

DC United Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-2-3-1

DC United likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Hamid

  • Defenders:Korb, Opare, Birnbaum, Kemp

  • Midfielders:Sarvas, Harkes

Three consecutive league defeats, including last weekend\'s 2-0 loss at home to New York Red Bulls have seen Philadelphia drop to the bottom of the Eastern Conference, and they are now six points off the play-off places as we approach the halfway stage of the 2017 season. DC United have fared little better, however, and were bottom themselves before Thursday\'s 2-1 win against Atlanta United. That victory was only the second time in eight games DC United have scored, and their poor attacking record will give Philadelphia hope.
With just 12 goals scored in 16 games so far, DC United have the worst attacking record in this year\'s MLS.
