Reason: The bookmakers have United as favorites as they have had a great run of form at home all season.  They have drawn a fair number of matches, but they have been very difficult to defeat at Old Trafford.  They also have a massive edge in the table over the visitors, and they are fighting as best as they can for a top four spot here.

Team News

Jose Mourinho will be without star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic here for this match as he will be out of the rest of the season after badly injuring his knee last week against Anderlecht.  They have other options there, but none are as formidable in the way that he is.  Attacking midfielder Juan Mata is also set to miss the rest of the season, and that combined with the suspension of Maroune Fellaini after his red card on Thursday, means that they are even further down on men in the middle of the park.  Center back trio Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Marcos Rojo all remain sidelined, and they are looking very short at the back as well.  Mourinho has some decisions to make as he will have to juggle the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie with Celta Vigo with their Premier League aspirations.  Paul Pogba is also likely to miss out as his status is still up in the air, and will most likely come back at a later date just to be safe for the Red Devils' biggest ever investment.

Key Man

Surely this will be another chance for Wayne Rooney to play here, surely.  With so many players putting in such a hard, defensive shift against Manchester City and with a match in Europa League play only days away, they need his experience and guile as they face a side that are fighting for their lives. Rooney knows how these matches are.  Playing against the bottom clubs can be every bit as hard, if not harder, than playing against the top clubs at this stage of the season.  And for United, they are now still in the race of both of the fronts and must continue to chase both for the time being.  Rooney scored last weekend against Burnley in his first appearance back, and it was his first goal since January in the league.  You shouldn't dare count him out to score and help United edge out Swansea in this one.

Team Form

Manchester United have two draws and three wins in their last five matches in all competitions.  They drew 1-1 away to Anderlecht in the first leg of their Europa League tie before winning 2-0 at home to Chelsea and then 2-1 in extra time at home to Anderlecht to see them through to the semi-finals of the Europa League.  They then defeated Burnley away 0-2 before traveling to Manchester City and drawing 0-0.

Expected Line-up: 4-3-3

Man United likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:De Gea

  • Defenders:Young, Bailly, Blind, Shaw

  • Midfielders:Fosu-Mensah, Carrick, Herrera

  • Forwards:Lingard, Rooney, Martial

Team News

Paul Clement will be unable to call upon veteran right back Angel Rangel, defensive midfielder Jack Cork, and right winger Nathan Dyer for this tough away trip.  Midfielder Leroy Fer did limp off the pitch, but his status is up in the air at this time.  He may well end up playing.  Swansea come off a big win over Stoke at the weekend, and they will be well-rested for this match.  That could give them an advantage, albeit a slight one, over United.  Look for them to play with generally the same side here as it's tough to see why they'd change something that isn't broken.

Key Man

Fernando Llorente is going to do one thing well, and expecting him to do anything else is just crazy and a waste of time and/or money.  He's going to be physical, he's going to win headers, and he will get you goals.  But you must get the Spaniard the service that he requires.  The 32 was criticized by some for his lack of work rate and his lack of 'sprints' in some previous matches, but the truth is that he's never been that kind of player.  And that's not necessarily because he is lazy.  Look, he is aging and he knows what he can and can't do.  And yet, he still scores goals to give this side hope of surviving.  His winning goal on Saturday was his twelfth of the campaign, an impressive number given the fact that he is on the 18th best team in the league.  With Ayew and Sigurdsson around him, he shouldn't need to worry about running.  He just needs to get into areas and let them find him.  If they do, he can score as he did at Anfield

Team Form

Swansea have one win, three losses, and a draw in their last five matches.  A 0-0 home draw to Middlesbrough did them no favors, and they followed that up with a 1-3 home loss to Spurs.  Two 1-0 away defeats to West Ham and Watford followed, but they gave themselves some hope of survival with a 2-0 home win over Stoke last weekend.

Expected Line-up: 4-3-3

Swansea likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Fabianski

  • Defenders:Naughton, Fernandez, Mawson, Kingsley

  • Midfielders:Britton, Carroll, Fer

  • Forwards:Ayew, Sigurdsson, Llorente

Swansea City are getting close to desperation mode. In recent weeks, they\'ve had chances to get themselves out of danger, but they now no longer have their destiny in their own hands. Dropping points to Middlesbrough was bad for them, but they will also have been discouraged with losses to Watford and West Ham. They were matches that could have resulted in points, and it now puts their backs against the wall to get points from Manchester United and possibly Everton as well. This isn\'t good, but they aren\'t done just yet. Their win against Stoke was big for them, but it didn\'t seem them close the gap as Hull City also won. All they can do now is grab results and hope Hull doesn\'t. That will be the name of the game from here on in. As for Manchester United, they come into this match still in the hunt for a top four spot after Mourinho decided to play on the counterattack and basically settle for a draw to City. That is all well and good, but that now means that they have to continue to treat both competitions very seriously. They could still get in via both, via neither, or just one or the other. Some rotation will be absolutely necessary here, and it will be crucial to get it right as Swansea will have much more rest heading into this match.
Swansea have earned just ten points from away fixtures this season. They have three wins and one single draw with 13 losses to their names. This doesn\'t paint them in the greatest ever light for a result at Old Trafford against a side that have just one home loss this season. United also only have three losses total, so that shows that they are very tough to beat as well.
