Ghana

Our Prediction Tip

Draw will win this match.

These two teams have met twice before, with Mexico winning both of those meetings.  Both times have also been other friendlies, with Mexico winning 1-2 in 2008 at London's Craven Cottage.  They also won against Ghana 1-0 in a 2006 friendly played in Texas, but that match was in Dallas.  So there is some precedent for a Mexican win in Texas over the African powerhouse.

Mexico vs Ghana Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Mexico are at 11/10 to win, a draw is at 9/4, and a Ghana win is at 2/1.

These odds look a lot like you'd expect them to despite the fact that Mexico are playing with what is effectively a 'C' team.  The reason why is because Houston is basically their backyard, so they are guaranteed to have a ton of very passionate supporters on their side.  On top of that Ghana, are without a few big name players.  However, 2/1 looks pretty tasty considering that they have Gyan and the Mexico's C team in front of them.  So that is a very good option to play for sure here.

Mexico vs Ghana Prediction

It's easy to predict a Ghana win in this match due to how much quality they have, but the stats and the crowd both point to Mexico.  This should be an entertaining affair, and one that ends in a score draw.

Correct Score Prediction: Mexico 2-2 Ghana

Team News

Juan Carlos Osorio will be in Russia with the Confederations Cup squad.  This team will be completely different, with a mixture of experienced veterans and young players looking to make a name in the team instead of the full side that have made the Confed Cup semi-finals.

Key Man

Half of the goals in the Mexico squad belong to 26 year old striker Alan Pulido.  The Chivas man has scored five times in just eight caps for the national team, but he has seen limited chances due to all of the quality up front for them.  He'll have his chance here, though, and you can't rule him out from scoring yet again.

Team Form

Mexico have three wins and two draws in their last five matches.  They won 3-0 at home to Honduras in World Cup Qualification before playing the US at home and drawing 1-1 in a qualifier as well.  In the Confederations Cup group stage, they began with a 2-2 draw with Portugal.  A narrow 1-2 win over New Zealand followed, and they then won 1-2 after coming from behind against hosts Russia.

Mexico Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-3-3

Mexico likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Corona

  • Defenders:Rodriguez, Marin, Ayala, Nilo

  • Midfielders:Molina, Gutierrez, Duenas

  • Forwards:Pizarro, Sandoval, Pulido

Team News

Kwesi Appiah has selected a very strong squad for this friendly, and they will be expected to provide quite a test for Mexico despite playing far away from home.  Despite being picked for the squad, Andre and Jordan Ayew and Daniel Amartey will not travel due to fatigue.  Along with them, Thomas Partey and Afriyie Acquah are also not in the side.

Key Man

The aforementioned Asamoah Gyan is one of the most feared strikers in African football, and he is also one of the world's most lethal international goal scorers.  The captain now plays his football for Al Ahli in Dubai, but he has still continued to score for his country.  The 31 year old scored a goal against Ethiopia last time out to get his side off and running, and Mexico will have a hard time holding him back here.

Team Form

Ghana have two wins, two losses, and a draw in their last five matches. In the quarterfinal of the Africa Cup of Nations, they won 1-2 against DR Congo before losing the semi-final to Cameroon 2-0. In the third place match, they also lost 1-0 to Burkina Faso. In May, they had a domestic-based friendly with Benin that ended 1-1. Earlier this month, they won a Cup of Nations qualifier 5-0 at home over Ethiopia.

Ghana Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-4-2

Ghana likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Antwi

  • Defenders:Afful, Boye, Amartey, Lumor

  • Midfielders:Ofori, Thomas, Agyepong, Acheampong

  • Forwards:Dwamena, Gyan

This match will be an interesting friendly as both sides are trying to get ready for upcoming matches. Ghana have big must-win qualifiers coming up later in the year, and they will be trying to find something to help them in that challenge. This is a fairly strong side here, despite some big misses. As for Mexico, this is an experimental side that will be playing in the Gold Cup, so they will also be looking to find a good side for that tournament to come in July. Because of everything going on, it looks likely that this will end in a draw.
Ghana\'s Asamoah Gyan has nearly five times the number of total goals (49) than the Mexico Gold Cup squad have in total (10).
