Malta vs Luxembourg Betting Tips and Odds

Betfair have the following odds available for this match:

Malta are at 2.8 to win, a draw is at 3/3, and a Luxembourg win is at 2.4

In World Cup qualification, Malta were one of the worst sides in all of Europe. They only took one single point from their ten matches, finishing bottom of Group F by five whole points.  Only minnows San Marino, Liechtenstein, and Gibraltar picked up less. As for Luxembourg, they were impressive in their campaign. They were able to finish fifth in a tough Group A along with France, Sweden, and the Netherlands by picking up six points from their fixtures. This has breathed a lot of confidence into them, and it should do them well for the Nations League coming up.

Overall in the last year, Malta's record has included one win (the one over Ukraine), a draw, and six losses in eight outings.  They have gone six straight without a win, and only one of those was not a loss. Luxembourg, meanwhile, have looked much rosier. They have collected four wins, two draws, and four defeats in that time. They did lose badly to Sweden and Netherlands, both in away matches, but they also got points against France and Bulgaria in that space to boost them.

A no for both teams to score is set at 2/1 via Betfair.

Malta vs Luxembourg Prediction

Luxembourg have shown that they are not quite the pushovers of old of late. While they are still going to have issues making it into tournaments, they still look as if they are reaching into that next tier and should be able to beat Malta.

Correct Score Prediction: Malta 0-1 Luxembourg

Team News

Tom Saintfiet has continued to call up veterans to his squad given the fact that they are having issues just getting reasonable losses. 36 year old top scorer Michael Misfud is among the older players included in the team, but there is no place for Ryan Fenech, or Clifford Baldacchino, who started their last match.

Key Man

The key man remains to be the aforementioned Michael Misfud. With 40 goals to his name in his career, the veteran has to be a player that they turn to until they can somehow manage to replicate his influence in the side. Still yet, even with his know-how they've had trouble getting results, so they must start to find other options.

Team Form

Malta have four losses and a win in their last five matches:

0-3 home loss vs Estonia (Friendly)
3-0 loss at Slovakia
1-1 home draw vs Lithuania
2-0 loss at Scotland
0-4 home loss vs England

Malta Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-4-2

Team News

Luc Holtz has decided to call up a younger squad that expected. Recent regulars such as Olivier Thill, captain Mario Mutsch, Aurelien Joachim, and Maxime Chanot have been left off the team for this set of matches. Young players from the French and German top divisions, or close thereto, are being given a chance.

Key Man

One such player that has survived the cut from back in November is winger Gerson Rodrigues. The 22 year old Sheriff Tiraspol man is one of the most dangerous men in the side, and it certainly showed last time out as they defeated Hungary in large part due to an assist from him.

Team Form

Luxembourg have two wins, two draws, and a loss in their last five matches:

3-1 home win vs Karlsruher (Friendly)
2-1 home win vs Hungary (Friendly)
1-1 home draw vs Bulgaria
8-0 loss at Sweden
0-0 draw at France

Luxembourg Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-3-3

Malta will be hosting Luxembourg for the first time since 1995 in this match, but they will not be favored here. Luxembourg has improved drastically of late, with their club football making waves in the Europa League. They have also picked up some useful results in qualification, including a 0-0 draw in France. Look for them to get a win here.
Malta have won just one of their last 23 matches, with the one win coming in a friendly upset over Ukraine last June.
