Huddersfield vs Newcastle Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Huddersfield are at 13/10 to win, a draw is at 11/5, and Newcastle are at 21/10 to win.

Both sides have arguments to be made here, and they are both relatively even matched. They both just came from the Championship, and neither were truly great even down there.

However, we like Huddersfield due to the way they attacked on the opening day of the season.  That kind of forward play is going to be tough to deal with for 90 minutes, especially for a side that are dealing with defensive injuries.  That should certainly aid Huddersfield in this match.

Newcastle's attack also looked disjointed in the first half with Spurs, so they will need to improve a lot to start scoring goals in this league.

After scoring goals in both matches last season, Dwight Gayle to score wouldn't be a bad bet.  To do that at anytime, he is at 7/4.

Huddersfield vs Newcastle Prediction

David Wagner has gotten Huddersfield off to a great start, and they should get the most of their home crowd by seeing off Newcastle on Sunday.

Correct Score Prediction: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Newcastle

Team News

David Wagner has had to begin his side's season without three key players in center back Jon Gorenc-Stankovic, center midfielder Jonathan Hogg, and forward Nahki Wells due to injuries.

Key Man

Steve Mounie, a fresh signing out of Ligue 2 in France, burst upon the scene on Saturday.  He scored two brilliantly taken goals, and he's already showing why Wagner placed so much faith in him by making him the club's record transfer.  Mounie showed speed and finishing class that so many teams in lower reaches of the table are supposed to have.  That kind of performance could drag his team to great places.

Team Form

Huddersfield have two wins, two draws, and a loss in their last five matches.  They won 0-1 away to Barnsley before losing 1-2 at home to Udinese.  Next came away draws at Stuttgart (3-3) Torino (2-2).  Against Crystal Palace last weekend, they won 0-3 away to sit on top of the table for about a day.

Huddersfield Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-2-3-1

Huddersfield likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Lossi

  • Defenders:Smith, Zankga, Schindler, Lowe

  • Defensive Midfielders:Billing, Mooy

  • Attacking Midfielders:Kachunga, Palmer, Ince

  • Forwards:Mounie

Team News

Rafa Benitez had a crisis last week in defence as he lost both center back Florian Lejeune and left back Paul Dummett inside the first half.  Jonjo Shelvey was sent off just after half time as well, so all three miss out here.  Winger Rolando Aarons is also out, while fresh striker signing Joselu also looks set for a spell on the sidelines after joining with injury.

Key Man

Dwight Gayle will be a man to watch here after scoring both home and away against Huddersfield last season in the Championship.  Gayle was that division's top scorer last term, but he didn't look like the same confident man against Spurs when he got a rare chance to score.  Gayle will need to stamp his authority down, or he could risk losing his place to someone else.

Team Form

Newcastle have two losses and three wins in their last five matches.  They won 0-4 at Bradford before falling 2-1 at Mainz.  Next came a 1-3 win at Wolfsburg and they then won 2-0 against Hellas Verona to finish preseason.  They began their season with a 0-2 home defeat at the hands of Spurs last week.

Newcastle Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-2-3-1

Newcastle likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Elliot

  • Defenders:Manquillo, Lascelles, Clark, Lazaar

  • Defensive Midfielders:Merino, Hayden

  • Attacking Midfielders:Ritchie, Perez, Atsu

  • Forwards:Gayle

Newcastle United had a torrid time in their opener back in the Premier League at home last week. They played well enough... until captain Jonjo Shelvey decided to stomp Dele Alli. From there, they had no chance. The Tyneside club have a habit of doing this to themselves, and they will be meeting a Huddersfield side full of confidence in their first home match of the season. While Newcastle might be the better side on paper, paper doesn\'t look football matches. Huddersfield should just about edge it and remain perfect to begin the season.
Huddersfield had just 43% of the ball last weekend, yet they showcased a ferocious attack when on the ball.
