Eintracht Frankfurt were poor away from home last season, but the signing of Sebastien Haller could be a game changer in that respect - the French striker has already scored on his debut, and will hope to do the same in his first Bundesliga game.
Both sides are struggling with injuries, but Freiburg’s home advantage may prove telling - Frankfurt have not won at Freiburg since 2009, after all.
The visitors will hope, at least, to be in the goals and banish the memories of last season's impotent performances away from home.
But Freiburg - keen to bounce back from their Europa League exit - remain favourites, and a narrow home win to kick-start the campaign looks a good bet.
SC Freiburg's home advantage makes them favourites for Sunday's match, but you can still back them at 6/4 with Ladbrokes.
With Sebastien Haller in the goals already for Frankfurt, however, it is worth backing both teams to score at 13/15 with Ladbrokes, or Freiburg to win and BTTS at 9/2 with Bet365.
Haller is 11/5 to score at any time with Betfair, while Nils Petersen - who has already scored twice for Freiburg this season - is 21/10 with Bet365.
Freiburg can bounce back from their Europa League exit with a win, but it is likely to be a close-fought game.
Freiburg have a number of injury concerns at the start of the season, with Karim Guede, Georg Niedermeier, Manuel Gulde, Jonas Meffert and Onur Bulut all set to miss at least the first month.
Nils Petersen has scored twice in three games already this season, opening the scoring last weekend after scoring the winner in the first leg against Domzale.
Freiburg were knocked out of the Europa League 2-1 on aggregate, beating Domzale 1-0 at home but crashing out after a 2-0 away loss. They beat Germania Halberstadt 2-1 in the DFB Pokal last weekend, however.

Like their opponents, Eintracht Frankfurt have a number of injury concerns at the start of the new season - Omar Mascarell, Marco Fabian, Leon Batge, Alexander Meier and Danny Blum are all out. David Abraham was sent off in the cup win at Erndtebruck, and though his ban will only apply to the cup, he could be replaced by new signing Simon Falette.
Sebastien Haller has already kick-started his Frankfurt with a goal in the DFB Pokal win last weekend, and much is expected of the French striker.
Eintracht Frankfurt started their season with a tour of America, but since returning they have been unbeaten - drawing with Sassuolo and beating Real Betis among other highlights of the summer, before last weekend's 3-0 DFB Pokal win against Erndtebruck.
