Our Prediction Tip

Chile will win this match.

Chile and Australia have met five times in international matches, with their most recent encounter coming at the 2014 World Cup. Alexis Sanchez, Jorge Valdivia and Jean Beausejour scored Chile's goals in a 3-1 win that day. The result means Chile have never lost against Australia - winning four and drawing one of their five encounters.

Chile vs Australia Betting Tips

Chile are top of Group B, with Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez's goal against Germany making him his country's all-time leading goalscorer.
Having seen them ship three against Germany in the opening game, Sanchez and Chile will now hope to add a couple of their own against Australia - with the 3-1 win at the last World Cup showing what they are capable of.

The Copa America champions are on a great run of form at major tournaments, having won the last two Copa Americas, and anything less than a victory on Sunday would be a big shock.

That said, Australia proved they were no pushovers in the 3-2 defeat to Germany in the first game. The draw with Cameroon leaves their qualification hopes hanging by a thread - they need to not only win, but win well to reach the semi-finals - but they can at least give Chile a scare.

Goalkeeper and captain Claudio Bravo is a much better player for Chile than he showed in the Premier League at Manchester City last season, but that showed his vulnerability and Australia - though they remain outsiders to win - could at least exploit that on Sunday and give the Chileans a scare.

Nevertheless, Chile are favourites for good reason - the Copa America champions are in a purple patch with a great crop of players keen to add at least one more major international trophy before the current, vastly experienced group begins to break up.

Chile vs Australia Recommended bets with odds

Chile are rightly favourites to beat Australia, with Bet365, William Hill and Ladbrokes offering 4/11 on the Copa America champions.

Alexis Sanchez is now Chile's all-time top goalscorer after his goal against Germany, and he also scored first in Chile's last meeting with Australia - the Arsenal striker is 10/3 with Ladbrokes to do the same on Sunday.

Both teams to score is 10/11 with Bet365, William Hill and Betfair and Australia showed in their first game against Germany, which they lost 3-2, that they have the firepower even if they are weaker at the back. The same odds are available for no, however, if you do not fancy the Aussies to score.

Having beaten Cameroon 2-0 in their opening game, the same result is 13/2 with William Hill, while a 2-1 win is 15/2 with the both William Hill and Bet365.

Chile vs Australia Prediction

Chile are all-but-qualified for the semi-finals but will want to win to continue their good run of form. Australia showed they are no pushovers in the 3-2 defeat to Germany but you would expect Chile to win on Sunday.

Correct score prediction: Chile 2-1 Australia

Team News

Having stepped off the bench to make a telling contribution to Chile's late win against Cameroon, Alexis Sanchez started against Germany in the second game and opened the scoring. The Arsenal forward - and now Chile's all-time leading goalscorer - will expect to start again against Australia. Captain Claudio Bravo has sat out the first two games, with Johnny Herrera preferred in goal, but the Manchester City keeper is keen to prove his fitness after injury and will hope to start against Australia.

Key Players

Alexis Sanchez is now Chile's all-time leading goalscorer, with 38 goals in 112 games, and forms one part of Chile's immensely experienced front three. Sanchez, Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas now have 95 international goals between them, from 278 combined international appearances - placing all three of them in Chile's all-time top ten for both games and goals.

Team Form

Chile lost their final warm-up game for the Confederations Cup, 3-2 against Romania, but won their first group game 2-0 against Cameroon before Thursday's 1-1 draw with Germany.

Team News

Robbie Kruse and Alexander Gersbach replaced Aziz Behich and Massimo Luongo for the 1-1 draw with Cameroon, with Aaron Mooy dropping deeper in midfield as a result. Both games saw Australia opt for an attacking 3-4-2-1 formation, however, and that is likely to remain against Chile. Tim Cahill will hope to win his 100th international cap on Sunday, and could be handed a starting place.

Key Players

Aaron Mooy's performances for Huddersfield at club level helped propel them to the Premier League, and the midfielder is now one of the Socceroos' leading lights. Tim Cahill, who scored the last time Australia played Chile, is the country's all-time leading goalscorer with 48 goals, and will hope to mark his milestone 100th cap with another strike.

With Germany have sent an inexperienced squad to Russia for the Confederations Cup, Chile were favourites to qualify from Group B and will do exactly that if they avoid defeat against Australia. Realistically, they should do even better than that, however - goal difference may be a factor when it comes to topping the group, and Chile will hope to improve theirs with a decent win against the Aussies on Sunday.
Chile have never previously lost to Australia, winning four and drawing one of their five previous meetings.
