Celta Vigo have a decent record against Atletico Madrid, and despite being behind in the head-to-head stakes at 16-10 (eight draws), they have gone toe-for-toe with the two-time Champions League finalists in their last six: W2 D2 L2.

Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid: Prediction

Celta Vigo enjoyed a fine campaign in 2015/16, so it’s a bit perplexing to see them struggle so manfully this time around. They deserve respect for their performance against Real last time out, but to lose at home to Leganes in the first game of the season was criminal.

Atletico’s mixed form is a surprise too, and after reaching the final of the Champions League last term you would have expected them to start strongly this time around. Perhaps his Euro 2016 exploits have taken their toll on Antoine Griezmann, his side’s talisman.

The visitors here were impressive on the road in 2015/16, winning 13 of 19 starts in La Liga, so they clearly don’t mind travelling, while Celta’s home form was also impressive: W9 D6 L4 to be precise.

The efforts of Celta at the Bernabeu in their last game will stand them in good stead here, and they are the best team that Atletico has played this season to date: we can’t split them, so a third consecutive draw for Simeone’s side looks a possibility.

Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid Betting Tips

Atletico only lose one in four on the road, historically, and while Celta have been bolstered by the signing of Guiseppe Rossi on loan they are still likely to persevere with Manchester City reject John Guidetti up front on his own. Goals are hard to come by against Atleti at the best of times, let alone when you sabotage yourself.
But the Madrid outfit are yet to catch fire in 2016/17, and so the draw at 5/2 looks a distinct possibility.

You know the drill with Diego Simeone when it comes to away days: he likes to keep things compact and disrupted; that’s why his side only conceded eleven goals on the road during the whole of the last la Liga season.  Celta will do their best to play along – only 30% of their last ten home matches have witnessed three or more goals – so we’ll take the Under 2.5 market on at 8/15.

The most common scoreline in La Liga last season was 1-1: 12% of all matches ended as such. We’ll have a flutter on that being the outcome here too at 13/2.

Celta Vigo gave a great account of themselves at the Bernabeu last time out in a 1-2 defeat, but a loss is a loss and that followed a reverse at the hands of Leganes on the first day of the season. Celta will be desperate to get off the mark here, but an outstanding Atletico Madrid side stands between them and a much needed three points.

Celta Vigo likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:-Sergio Alvarez

  • Defenders:-Facundo Roncaglia, Jonny Castro, Hugo Mallo, Gustavo Cabral

  • Midfielders:-Nemanja Radoja, Pablo Hernandez, Theo Bongonda, Daniel Wass, Fabien Orellana

  • Forwards:-John Guidetti

It has been a rather strange start to the campaign for Atleti, drawing with two sides in Alaves and Leganes that they really should be beating. Diego Simeone will be demanding more from his players, and that will start on Saturday in Vigo.

Atletico Madrid likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:-Jan Oblak

  • Defenders:-Juanfran, Stefan Savic, Diego Godin, Felipe Luis

  • Midfielders:-Gabi, Augusto Fernandez, Koke, Saul Niguez

  • Forwards:-Kevin Gameiro, Antoine Griezmann

Normally we\'d be very positive about Atletico\'s chances of winning anywhere, let alone at a Celta Vigo side that has lost their opening two matches. But Diego Simeone’s side have looked rather flaccid in their two openers, and while a big performance could be just around the corner that it not enough for us to part with our hard-earned money on them in the markets. Celta have got some talented young players but as yet they haven\'t looked like repeating the kind of performances that saw them finish in the top six. This match could well peter out into a draw as a consequence.
In their most recent home fixtures Celta Vigo have struggled for goals but they\'ve been pragmatic themselves: 70% of their last ten have witnessed two goals or fewer. Here\'s another key stat: Atletico conceded 11 in 19 on the road last term, so put those two ingredients together and you have a recipe for a rather dull, low scoring affair.
