Ajax will win this match.
These sides have met on 50 occasions with Ajax winning 33, Vitesse 15 and only two draws. Ajax have won 20 from 25 in Amsterdam, with Vitesse picking up 5 wins. Traditionally a high scoring game, this fixture has averaged 3.44 goals but the last three encounters have finished 1-0 to Ajax.
Feb 2017 Vitesse 0-1 Ajax
Sep 2016 Ajax 1-0 Vitesse
Jan 2016 Ajax 1-0 Vitesse
Oct 2015 Vitesse 1-3 Ajax
Feb 2015 Vitesse 1-0 Ajax
Ajax are short priced favourites at 2/7, a draw is 5/1 and a Vitesse win at 10/1.
Ajax are short at 2/7 which could be useful in an accumulator, but there is little value in the exotic markets. This match has traditionally been a high scoring affair and the bookmakers expect another, but the last three matches have resulted in a 1-0 win to Ajax.
Therefore, a double on Ajax / Under 2.5 Goals represents good value at 16/5, but any exotics in this match should be treated with caution.
Ajax should win this game but it might not be as high scoring as predicted.
Daley Sinkgraven is still out with a knee injury. Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, Justin Kluivert, Mitchel Dijks and Hakim Ziyech were all rested in the midweek cup game and should return against Vitesse. Klass-Jan Huntelaar was also an unused substitute, but with Kasper Dolberg netting a hat-trick against Scheveningen, the 19-year-old striker should retain his spot up front.
Hakim Ziyech was sensational for Ajax last season with 12 goals and 20 assists in 46 games, starting this season with three goals and three assists in nine games. As those statistics suggest, the left-footed 24-year-old attacking midfielder is very direct, surges into the box with regularity and is adept at setting up teammates.
Knocked out of the playoffs of the Champions League and Europa League was a humiliating blow for Ajax. It's taking time for new manager Marcel Keizer to gain the trust of the supporters, but recent Eredivisie results have been decent. A 2-0 win at Venlo was followed by a 3-0 win against Zwolle and a 1-1 draw at Den Haag. Fourth division side Scheveningen stood no chance in the Cup, Ajax winning 5-1.
Goalkeeper:Onana
Defenders:Veltman, Ligt, Viergever, Dijks
Midfielders:Beek, F. de Jong, Ziyech
Forwards:Kluivert, Dolberg, Younes
Thulani Serero was on the bench against Swift midweek as he comes back from injury. Henk Fraser might be tempted to start Serero in Amsterdam. Striker Tim Matavz will come back into the starting XI at the expense of Luc Castaignos.
Tim Matavz has started strong for Vitesse this season with six goals in seven games. The former Groningen and PSV striker struggled after moving to Augsburg in 2014, but he is flourishing back in the Netherlands and will be an important source of goals for Vitesse throughout the season.
Vitesse have had a mixed start to the season with the added congestion of a Europa League campaign to contend with. Their last win was a 3-0 win at Excelsior before a hard fought 3-2 loss against Lazio in the Europa League. Vitesse suffered a cruel 1-1 draw against VVV Venlo in the 90th minute before being eliminated from the KNVB Beker on penalties by amateur side Swift.
